Hi! I’m Angela Henderson, a geek-mom in Grover Beach, California. A Cal State graduate and double-certified technician, I’ve been in the tech industry since the mid-90s. My customers value my ability to explain technical difficulties in plain English and reasonable prices. And now for a little…
Q and A
Q. What do you like most about your job?
A. A lot of computer repair services are moving to corporate and commercial clients. But I truly enjoy helping the “little guy,” as I feel residential clients are just as important and worthy of help as any high-end business! I like helping people make informed technical decisions, and you can count on me to explain things in plain English, not geek-speak.
Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?
A. I decided when I was eight years old! Seriously, I have *always* been tinkering with computers. I truly enjoy it.
Q. What are your most common types of jobs?
A. A lot of my work involves dealing with the modern plagues of spyware and viruses. The newer ones have gotten really clever, but they can’t escape me 😉 I also do a lot of hardware diagnosis, connectivity troubleshooting, tutoring and general consulting about what to buy and how to configure (computers, printers, smartphones, etc). I can customize new systems just for you as well, setting up everything you would need to get right right to it–without all the junk manufacturers typically load on new computers. In short, I do a little bit of everything.
Q. Are you still offering website design?
Sadly, no. Website work takes a tremendous amount of time. I enjoyed doing it but I can no longer fit it in the schedule with services calls, bench work and tutoring. If you want to have a go at it yourself, I recommend Wix, Weebly, or WordPress.com.
Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?
A. I have a Bachelor’s degree from Cal State Fullerton, and to further my education I studied for about a year at Allan Hancock’s Cisco Networking Academy, which I loved. From there I went on to study for several certifications, eventually becoming both A+ and Security+ certified. I am always eager to continue learning, and given how fast technology changes, that’s a good thing!
